Dear AGK,

It’s a year since you left us. But you aren’t going to be just another memory.  I can assure you that.

I am pretty sure most of the people who worked with you will share the same feeling. There is not one among us who’d have any reason to forget you.

It wasn’t too long ago that we were all part of Mudra, the Agency of Choice. The days when the advertising business was a whole lot purer, and shared a camaraderie that made hearts warm and blood warmer.

You not only led a team that challenged time, space, speed, thinking etc., but you propelled the agency to displace the best in this country.

I know you wouldn’t like a syrupy tribute that doesn’t mean anything. Nor a shallow and hollow platitude.

You deserve to be remembered as a true leader. One of a kind.

A father figure, mentor, teacher, and a general who knew the lay of the land, and exhorted his warriors to achieve things which were closer to impossible.

You were the original King Leonidas, and we were your Spartans.

You made us believe in ourselves. You made us feel special. You made us part of a pan Indian family.

You lived by principles that underlined your commitment to being Indian, and you stood for values that were basic, real, and precious.

You showed us that we could be in any part of India, and yet be part of a dream that took the advertising fight to the multinationals.

You taught us that we didn’t have to be from rich and wealthy families to succeed. You taught us to be humble, modest, and even invincible.

You gave us self-belief and pride. You pushed to exceed our limitations. You saw deep within us, and encouraged our individual strengths.

You allowed us space, you gave us dreams, you opened opportunities, and you allowed us to grow and flourish.

All this without hemming us in, slamming down on us, making us feel small, or doing anything that made us redoubt ourselves.

It is all this that you have given us without holding anything back, that has helped all of us to reach wherever we have reached.

Everything we are today is squarely because of the trust and conviction you had in us. You left behind a legacy that will be carried on.

Thank you for all your support, your affection, and your faith in us. Thank you also for showing us our individual paths to life.

You can never be forgotten dear Sir. And you never will be. You will always be missed.

Much love and respect.
