"I have spent the last 50 years in advertising (well almost) and I have met several interesting and different people in the business. Many of them have become friends whom I have had the occasion to learn from or mentor. And some friendships I cherish because we have gone beyond industry connections in the relationship. Here's where Subhash fits in. He is one of those rare breeds that blends strategic thinking with a high degree of creative appreciation. And he is someone who is steeped in music as if that were his profession and not advertising. Its that combination of skills that makes Subhash a unique talent. I can truly say that while he considers me his mentor I have probably learned more from him than he has from me. Particularly when it comes to inter personal relationships. He makes a lovable leader because people gravitate to him naturally.
Subhash is an ex Ogilvian but I missed the chance of knowing him then as I was away on an overseas assignment. I met him about a decade back when he was being interviewed for the Head of Bates job and then I had the pleasure of working with him at Bates. He took the business to a new high and then one day left because he had a calling to make something out of a new entrant - BBH. It was a very brave move and while I was sorry to see him go I saluted his determination to face new challenges. With that kind of a mindset, I am waiting for his next new challenge. I am sure it will be about as unique as he is."
