Jagran Film Festival (JFF) is an initiative by the Jagran Prakashan Group towards creating a culture of cinema appreciation and an honest and sincere attempt create a platform that connects great content with audiences across the country.
Last year, with over 16 towns, 400+ screenings, 16 cinema appreciation workshops, the festival directly touched over an audience of over 50,000 people, and the media coverage of jagran puts the reach of JFF well beyond 50 million people across India.
In its 8th year, the Festival received great response from filmmakers internationally having received a record number of film entries, over 3,000 as on date. Enthused by the response to this initiative by both the audiences and the filmmakers, the Festival in 2017, plans to travel an even greater distance. The Jagran Film Festival will start from Delhi, travelling through Kanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Dehradun, Hisar, Ludhiana, Patna, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Raipur, Indore, and Bhopal and finally culminates in Mumbai. This makes it geographically the largest film festival perhaps in the world. The festival screens films across genres from around the globe. A unique feature of JFF is that the cast and crew of a few select films are invited to a discussion with the audience on various elements of the film to wherever the Festival travels. An important aspect of the festival is to generate discussions on the various aspects of Cinema and its impact on society and popular culture.
Rules & regulations
The Festival is being organized by Jagran Prakashan Limited. This is the 8th edition of the Festival.
The Festival aims at providing a common platform for expression of the cinematic art and craft; promote and disseminate understanding of it.
1. Date & Place
The Festival begins in Delhi on July 1st, 2017 and concludes in Mumbai on September 24th, 2017. To promote the cinematic art and its appreciation, some films from the Festival would be screened in 16 other cities in India as part of the JFF.
The Special section ‘CINEMA OF THE SELLERS’ is competitive section for films produced by Indian Companies for Indian Brands and Service Providers: The section is divided into two broad categories :
- Cinema of the Sellers - Indian Competition for advertising films
- Right to include/exclude: The Directorate of Jagran Film Festival reserves the right to exclude films which are not in conformity with aims of the Festival, or which could offend the national feelings, sensibilities of communities and susceptibilities of any participating country, or are likely to promote racial discrimination.
3. Conditions for entering a film
Films entered in the Competition Section must fulfill the following conditions:
3.1 Films must be Advertising Films or films on public service advertising.
3.2 They must have been completed between September 30th, 2016 and August 21th, 2017
Eligibility period will be determined by the Censorship certificate. All films produced in India must have certification by Central Board of Film Certification.
3.3 The awards in the section are as under:
a) Golden Trophy/ Award for the Best Advertising Film: The award goes to both the Advertising Agency and the Production Company with separate trophies, Certificate and the Citation.
b) Silver Trophy/Award for the Second Best Advertising Film: The award goes to both the Advertising Agency and the Production Company with separate trophies, Certificate and the Citation.
c) Bronze Trophy/ Award for the Third Best Advertising Film: The award goes to both the Advertising Agency and the Production Company with separate trophies, Certificate and the Citation.
The awards go to both the Advertising Agency/Commissioning Company/Institution and the Production Company with separate trophies, Certificate and the Citation.
3.4 Entrants must agree that if their film/films win any of the Jagran Film Festival Awards, all screenings thereafter will acknowledge the Award(s) on the film itself.
3.5 Entries will be subject to preview by a committee constituted by the Directorate of Jagran Film Festival. A film which is not accepted for the Competition Section can be shown in the Jagran Film Festival with the consent of the entrant in some other section.
3.6 The Jury for Cinema of the Sellers section will consist of a Chairman and three other members.
3.7 The decisions of the jury will be taken by a simple majority of the members present and voting. The jury can evolve its own rules for assessment of the entries. The Directorate of Jagran Film Festival or its representatives can attend the deliberations of the jury, but shall neither participate nor vote. The guiding principle of the awards is the impact of the film on viewers/target audience.
3.8 No person in any way connected with the production or commercial exploitation of a competitive entry will be a member of the jury. All Members of the jury will refrain from releasing any articles or reviews to the press concerning the films submitted for their judgment, until after the jury's decisions have been formally announced at the closing function.
4. Notice of Participation
Entrants would be informed of selection of the film by September 10th, 2017 by the Directorate of Jagran Film Festival.
5. Entering films in the Festival
5.1 Only Advertising Agencies/Institutions commissioning the films and holding screening rights can themselves or through their duly authorized representatives, enter the films by filling up the enclosed Entry Form.
5.2 The Directorate of Jagran Film Festival may also invite films if it considers them of interest.
5.3 The Form, duly filled in, separately for each film proposed to be entered, should reach the Directorate of Jagran Film Festival by August 21th, 2017.
All films screenings at Jagran Film Festival would be certified by Central Board of Film Certification, India.
7. Excerpts for Television
For promotion of films entered in the Festival on television, producers/authorized entrants are requested to allow the Jagran film Festival to use excerpts of the film(s) entered, as and when required.
8.1 Films not presenting sufficient technical qualities for good public screening can be refused after checking of the uploaded files by the Print Checking Unit of the Directorate of Jagran Film Festival.
8.2 The participants must ensure that they have the right to participate in Jagran Film Festival of India with regard to parties connected with the production / distribution of the participating film and / or other right holders/licenses.
8.3 Participation in the Festival implies acceptance of these Regulations.
8.4 The Directorate of Jagran Film Festival will decide all matters not expressly provided for in these regulations but in conformity with the provisions of the International Regulations for film festivals and decision of The Directorate of Jagran Film Festival shall be final and binding on all parties.
